Trains
Hatfield railway station is the closest train station to Herts - just 1.5 miles away, about a 30 minute walk.
Fast service trains are available from London Kings Cross into Hatfield every 20 minutes on weekdays (Monday – Friday).
Hatfield is also connected to a wide range of locations by rail, including Welwyn Garden City, Moorgate, and Finsbury Park.

Buses
The Uno bus service has routes covering Hertfordshire and North London.
Zone One
- Our discounted student and staff network covers a wide range of routes in Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Luton, Watford and more.
Bus 614 and 644 from station 3
- Connect from Hatfield railway station and stop on both campuses - de Havilland and outside The Forum on College Lane.
Bus 653 from St Albans City station
- Drops off outside of de Havilland campus and the Forum in College Lane.
Students can show their University ID to access a subsidised rate to travel from Hatfield Station to campus, and use the intercampus shuttle during term time. You can purchase a discounted ticket on the Uno buses via cash or contactless through the Uno bus app.
As of 1 January 2025, the Government funded scheme capping bus fares across UK networks increased from £2 to £3 per trip.

Cycling
We encourage you to keep active and help reduce our carbon footprint when commuting to campus.
If you commute to Herts by bicycle or scooter, use the campus maps in the Herts Mobile app to locate bicycle rack sites and to find information on travelling to University.

Walking
Keeping active and productive throughout the day improves your mood and cardiovascular health! If you live locally, you can use a travel app like Google Maps to plan a walking journey to our campuses
Our Herts Mobile app also provides information on travelling to campus, and you can use the wayfinding function in the app to find your way to your classrooms.
Commuting by car
Herts is near the A1, M11, and M1 motorways.
Student parking sites are available at:
- Park and Ride, Angerland, AL10 8HS (Park and Ride - Map)
- College Lane, Hatfield AL10 9AB (College Lane – Map)
You will need a parking permit to access student car park sites. Register your car and payment details on our University’s Hozah website.
You will receive a confirmation email once you have registered – check your junk / spam folders if it doesn’t appear in your inbox. If you haven’t received a confirmation email, please contact the Parking Team.
Parking is free for two hours with a no return period of three hours – which means any time after three hours you will have to pay for parking. For example: If you have a lecture that finishes at 11.00 followed by another class at 16.00, it is best to pay for an extended number of hours that covers your whole day on campus.

If you’re driving to campus, you can also use our Park and Ride service, with 800 free parking spaces available. You can either take the £1 shuttle bus to College Lane or make your way to campus on foot.
